We are one
The pain of a terrorist attack on your country cuts deep … there is the feeling our nation has irrevocably shifted and separated from a perceived innocence thanks to one individuals ‘right wing white supremacist’ views.
His target ~ the Islamic community in Christchurch … 50 innocent people murdered ~ men, women and children all due to one mans hatred of Islam and the Muslim religion … he planned and chose to eliminate as many people as he could in their place of worship, the one place you should feel safe.
If his desire was to separate and divide … to ‘call out’ an individual religion through his sadistic actions, he has managed to do the opposite. Instead he has united us … united this melting pot that is Aotearoa … New Zealand … the place we; of all colours, religions, beliefs, ages and sexual identities call home. We have come together as ONE. Your plan to conquer and divide has instead strengthened our unity, our love and provided an overwhelming drive for peace and harmony so fuck you.
There were no winners in this tragedy and to the narcissistic individual who committed this heinous crime, I truly hope you recognise how you have unwittingly regenerated the courage and compassion of our nation through your cowardly and violent actions and that this reality sits firmly embedded in your head and heart forever more.
